What is a ‘Diplôme universitaire’ (DU)?”

The DU is created and delivered by French institutions and not by the Ministry of Higher Education. Its duration can vary and its objective is often professionalizing. Its advantage is that it is more flexible in terms of creation (does not need all the ministerial certifications that take time, it is possible to be quickly adapted depending on the needs, etc.).

ISK was created quickly, that is why this format was chosen, taking into account that KazNPU already delivers a Master’s degree, already recognized in a number of countries thanks to the Bologna process. At medium term, the objective is to change these DU into real double masters.

What is the interest of the ISK ‘diplôme universitaire’?”

Your Kazakhstani Master’s degree gives you the opportunity to follow your studies and find a job in every country where it is recognized. The DU gives it an additional value (the Kazakhstani higher education system being often badly known) thanks to the reputation of Sorbonne, its programs and its professors. Then the university or the employer can find information on the courses program, the professors, even contact the pedagogical coordinators, to obtain references on your qualities.

Can I follow my studies in France?”

Of course! You can as holder of a double diploma: Kazakhstani Master’s degree and ‘Diplôme universitaire’ (DU) from Paris Diderot. Moreover, a new scholarships program is offered to Kazakhstan students who wish to do a second year of Master’s degree or a doctorate in France (here). ISK students will have the priority, think about it!

I wish to do my doctorate thesis in Kazakhstan, can I be supervised by a French professor?”

Yes, you have the opportunity to benefit from the partnership with Paris Diderot for the co-supervision of a doctorate thesis. All you have to do is get an official co-supervision letter from one of our university’s professors, interested in the research subject you propose. You will then be able to complete your application for a thesis in Kazakhstan.

I wish to go on an internship abroad but I have little money. Does any financial assistance exist?”

Yes, you have the possibility to benefit from a scholarship from the University Agency of Francophonie (transport, monthly indemnity, health insurance) to go on a one to three months internship in a French-speaking country. More information here
